About the Bowie Lions

The Bowie Lions Club was chartered on June 20, 1962. Since then the members of the Bowie Lions have pledged unselfish service to the Bowie community and to those less fortunate than us. Club members volunteer their time and energy to a variety of fundraising efforts; all the profits are designated for charitable uses. No money received from the public goes towards any of the administrative or social costs of the Club. These are borne by the Club members themselves through dues. In typical years through the efforts of our members and friends, we raise money by having book sales, firewood and mulch sales, along with the annual Christmas tree sale.

While supporting the programs of the Lions International Association, our aim is to expend most of our funds locally by providing:
  • Eye Examinations
  • Eye Glasses
  • Hearing Aids
  • Local Food Banks and Supplemental Food Programs
  • Hospital and Convalescent Equipment
  • Used Eye glasses and hearing aid collection and recycling

The Bowie Lions also support such activities as:
  • Eye and Organ donor programs
  • The Bowie Rain Barrel program
  • Leader dogs for the blind
  • The Bowie SoapBox Derby race
  • American Red Cross blood mobile several times a year
  • The Lions District 22-C Eye research and Tissue Bank
  • Camp Merrick
  • SHARE Supplemental Food Program
  • Ms. Wheelchair Maryland
  • The Prince Georges County Christmas in April program
  • The Lions Vision Research Foundation at the Wilmer Institute
  • and many others
Our regular dinner meetings usually feature a guest speaker or speakers and allow the Lions to blend a good meal and fellowship with the Club's educational and administrative missions. We strongly encourage members' visits to other Clubs and also have a number of social events that include our family and friends, always centered on the community theme that unites us.

If you are interested in becoming a Lion please join us at a regular dinner meeting and ask questions about the Bowie Lions and the Lions Club International. Consider the talents that you have and that by joining the Lions you can make a difference, and can make community and the world a better place in which to live.

Our Regular meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at the Bowie Lion's Den 13109 11th St Bowie. For directions to the club you can call 301-262-2665 or view directions online.
